Peacocks (in progress)

for guitar duo

PROGRAM NOTE:

This piece grows from a common sight in West Texas: looking up into the bare trees and seeing peacocks, their plumage flashing against a landscape otherwise spare and dry. It is a shock of beauty in a place where survival itself feels unlikely.

The music holds onto that strangeness — bright colors against a barren ground, grace in an unexpected habitat. Through two guitars, it traces the shimmer of feathers, the stillness of mesquite thickets, and the improbable flourishing of something delicate in a harsh place.
